The American Society of Pharmacovigilance Physicians is a professional membership organization for physicians who are interested or have expertise in pharmacovigilance. Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other possible drug-related problems*. Membership is open for pharmacovigilance physicians working in pharmaceuticals, biotech, contract research organizations, and also for clinicians who would like to further their career in Pharmacovigilance.

Ihor Turkevych, MD

Originally from Ukraine, Ihor Turkevych, M.D., graduated from Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, Ukraine. Completed Kyiv Academy of Post-Graduate Training. Fellowship in Pediatric Thoracic Surgery, Kyiv, Ukraine, and at Regional Hospital “Center Health of Children,” Fellowship in Pediatric Oncological Surgery, Warsaw, Poland. USMLE Certified M.D. The Medical Doctor and research scientist with a background encompassing 13 years of extensive experience in Pre-Clinical Studies, Pediatric Thoracic, and Oncology Surgeon worked for Children’s Hospital of Chernobyl Problems. Post-Doc Training at the University of Pennsylvania Endocrinology & Diabetes Core and PV working as Drug Safety Physician for Roche, BMS, and Shire/Takeda as Medical Director, Global Safety Lead. Created and led as Head of Medical Review Department with 10 Medical Doctors direct reports. Head of Global Drug Safety & Pharmacovigilance at Esperion Therapeutics.  Artificial Intelligence Project Lead on Takeda - MIT School of Engineering collaboration. Special Acknowledgment Award for the Excellent Medical Service, 1994 & 2017. Author of approximately 14 presentations at Scientific conferences. He enjoys indoor and outdoor activities, listening to different music, playing the piano, sailing, horseback riding, tennis, & skiing. His native language is Ukrainian, but can also speak Polish and Russian.

Debashish Dey, MD, PhD, MPH

Debashish Dey, MD, PhD, MPH is Vice President and Member, Board of Trustees at ASPVP. Debashish is a drug safety and pharmacovigilance physician with twenty years in pharmaceutical research and development. He led global drug safety & pharmacovigilance functions to support clinical development and launch of half a dozen

novel, first or best in class treatments in therapeutic areas including neuromuscular, cardiovascular, hematology-oncology, pulmonary, autoimmune, rare diseases and gene therapies. He is author and co-author of over fifty scientific publications including original papers, review articles, chapters in edited books. Debashish is trained in internal medicine, geriatrics and epidemiology.

John Price, MB ChB, PhD

John brings over 25 years of deep, global experience across Pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs. He has been instrumental in creating and leading high-functioning global departments for PV, Regulatory, and Clinical Operations at major organizations, including senior roles at the UK MHRA, Pfizer, J&J, and Alexion Pharmaceuticals. Over the last 8 years John has operated as an independent consultant, building and strengthening the PV function at several small and large pharma and Biotech companies. John is a Physician executive with experience at US based global pharmaceutical companies including big Pharma, consumer health and rare diseases, and a European Regulatory Agency. 27 years of experience in drug development, Pharmacovigilance, risk management and regulatory affairs. Solution-oriented visionary architect and leader of global Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Operations departments supporting the drug lifecycle across all therapeutic areas. Passionate about driving effectiveness and efficiencies to avoid excessive spend simply complying with regulatory requirements and save valuable dollars for the development of future medicines, and helping companies that possess limited resource and specialist expertise to market their products.

Treasurer

Mike Thomas, DO, MPH&TM

Mike Thomas is a Pharmacovigilance Medical Director at Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Treasurer for the American Society of Pharmacovigilance Physicians. He graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Mike serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public and previously worked as a senior epidemiologist supporting the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Department of Defense. Mike is an instructor in the medical society’s Certificate in Pharmacovigilance Medical Review.
